The History of the Elder Lands
Remul: "The Destroyer", the first Necromancer.
Remul and Alem were brothers in the first age. Alem fell in love with Elhonna and brought magic to the people of the elder lands as a gift from her. Remul, not content to do the elemental conjurations allowed to them experimented in the one element with which only gods were meant to dabble, life force. He learned to take the life forces of others into himself and how to put it into other bodies, dead and alive. He became the first mortal to challenge the gods and almost won. The gods created the orcs with no fear of death to combat him and one orc above them all, Gruumsh. Gruumsh used the extra power given to him to create three weapons which when all focused in one place have enough energy to incapacitate a god. They trapped Remul in a prison beneath the Vale of creation and built the temple of creation on that spot.
Thus began the second age. The Third age saw the foundations of the empire and in that third age Remul began to exert his will once more. He saw to it that the stones of Gruumsh were displaced and destroyed. He then began building an army to extricate himself. He swayed the will of drow aristocrats to help as his vanguard and built an army of automatons as his nation. His workshop was breached and his plans dashed by a small band of adventurers who, with the blessings of all the major gods, had gathered the very weapons built to kill him in the first age. The heroes also brought with them his brother. Alem, turned away by elhonna for giving away a gift meant only for him he dedicated the rest of his life to purity and faith. He had live for generations as a monk and in this final moment was killed instantly by the incredible power of The Destoryer. Luckily the heroes destroyed him and in a moment of temporal rift were united with the house of balance to destroy him again while his pylactery was destroyed in the future.
Then he created an avatar, P’thanwy. She proved herself in the elemental war and earned a place at the right hand of the emperor. All the while this false hero was preparing the way for Remul’s return. The House of Balance, a group of adventurers who saw the truth of the matter and quested to stop P’thanwy. They made their way all the way to the farthest reaches of the empire to a temple of death where P’thanwy had her last stand. She revealed her true nature as an aspect of Remul and in a titanic battle was slain. The House of balance, in a moment of temporal rift also destroyed Remul’s phylactery, killing him in both times, seemingly for good.
